GERBER COLLISION & GLASS REJOINS JD MOTORSPORTS AND LANDON CASSILL FOR CHICAGOLAND

Gaffney, SC –

JD Motorsports with Gary Keller (JDM) is proud to welcome Gerber Collision & Glass, one of the nation's leading autobody and glass repair and replacement companies, back on board the team’s No. 4 Chevrolet driven by Landon Cassill in Saturday's Camping World 300 NASCAR Xfinity Series race at Chicagoland Speedway.

Cassill, who hails from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, has a long history of driving for JDM. He has one previous start this season for the team at Talladega Superspeedway, where he earned a ninth-place finish. More recently, he helped pilot the No. 4 Chevrolet at Michigan International Speedway during both practice sessions for the weekend to help shake down the car for driver Ross Chastain.

Landon was quoted saying “Anytime I get the chance to drive one of Johnny Davis’ Chevrolets, I gladly jump at the opportunity. He has been so good to me throughout my career, and with the big improvements made to the team so far throughout the 2019 season, I feel confident that we can have a great showing with Gerber Collision & Glass at Chicagoland.”

No stranger to each other, Gerber Collision & Glass previously partnered with Cassill in both races in 2014 and 2015 at Chicagoland. Gerber has also sponsored JDM for the past two years, supporting driver Ross Chastain.

Car owners have trusted their autobody repairs and auto glass repair and replacement for more than 80 years to Gerber Collision & Glass. Gerber started with one auto glass and trim shop in Chicago and has spread to over 500 shops in 27 states across the country, including over 70 locations in the greater Chicagoland area.

Currently, the No. 4 entry sits solidly in 15th place in the NXS owners’ points standings, with an average finish of 15th. Other drivers that have piloted the entry include Chastain, Stephen Leicht, and Scott Lagasse, with Chastain earning its best finish of the season at Las Vegas with a 7th place effort.

"Gerber Collision & Glass is excited to continue our partnership with JD Motorsports," said Simeen Kazmi, Advertising Manager for Gerber Collision & Glass. "Our teams at Gerber work hard to WOW every customer and be the best each day. And we know that Landon Cassill will WOW the crowd driving the Gerber No. 4 Chevrolet."

The NASCAR Xfinity Series heads to Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Illinois on Saturday, June 29th, for the running of the Camping World 300. NEWCOMERS MATTHEWS AND REPKO LEAD THE WAY FOR JD MOTORSPORTS IN IOWA

NEWCOMERS MATTHEWS AND REPKO LEAD THE WAY FOR JD MOTORSPORTS IN IOWA

Newton, IA –

This past Sunday, the NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) raced at Iowa Speedway for the season’s third race at a short track. Heading into the weekend, there were some driver swaps that brought a fresh, new perspective on the team’s equipment.

Tyler Matthews, driver of the No. 15 Linetec Services Chevrolet, made his second career NXS start at Iowa, a track very similar to that where he made his debut at Richmond earlier this season. Matthews drove a smart race, after starting from the 33rd position, he made it his goal to run all the laps and gain as much experience as possible. By the end of Stage 1, he was scored in 23rd, and at the conclusion of Stage 2, he had worked his way up to 20th place.

Despite bringing a caution due to slight contact with the wall during Stage 3, Matthews was able to rally back and bring his Camaro home with an impressive 20th place finish. Of the two races ran so far, this is his best finish yet. Matthews will be back in the No. 15 Chevrolet for more races later in the season, with his growing racing schedule expected to be unveiled soon.

Ryan Repko, driver of the No. 01 The McLain Group Chevrolet, made his series debut at Iowa, and like Matthews, made it his goal to run as many laps as possible and gain some valuable experience racing these faster cars than what he is used to. Prior to this race, he had two ARCA Menards Series starts to his name, but he primarily races late model stock cars throughout the Southeast. Repko seemed to adjust well to the heavier NXS car, and he showed it during Sunday’s race.

Repko qualified his Chevrolet in 32nd position, but ran right around his JDM teammates early on. At the end of Stage 1, he was 22nd, then he finished Stage 2 off consistently in 23rd. Unfortunate timing for cautions hindered the No. 01 team, putting him multiple laps down, but at the end of the day, there was not one scratch on the car, marking his debut a success. Ryan will be back in the No. 01 for more races later on in the season as well.

Stephen Leicht vacated his normal No. 01 Chevrolet seat and hopped over to the No. 4 SEM Chevrolet for the first time this season at Iowa. Leicht rolled off from the 22nd position to start the race, and ran consistently within the Top 20 for the majority of the afternoon. He ended up 25th at the end of Stage 1, but jumped up to 19th in Stage 2. Just as he started to work his way up into the 10th-15th range, disaster struck.

On lap 204, the brake pedal went soft on his car, leaving him with little to no brakes left. This issue put the No. 4 out of the race early, coming home with a 25th place finish. This finish actually moves Leicht up one spot in points, now sitting 21st, just 10 markers out of the Top 20.

Bad luck stuck once again for Garrett Smithley and the No. 0 JD Motorsports Chevrolet this weekend. After qualifying the car in the 25th spot, Smithley and the #NumberNuthin crew appeared to have one of the better runs of the season going. He was 19th at the end of Stage 1, and remained on the lead lap throughout most of Stage 2. Just as it seemed that his bad luck streak was all but behind him, a violent vibration on lap 106 forced him to come down pit road.

As it turns out, the vibration came from a wheel stud that had been sheared off during a pit cycle, which immediately put Smithley out of the race. Thankfully, there was not any significant damage to the racecar, but this marks the third race in a row where Garrett has had mechanical issues take him out of contention early on. He now drops down a couple spots in the points standings to 18th.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series has an off weekend this week, but will be back in action on Saturday, June 29th, at Chicagoland Speedway for the running of the Camping World 300. Always a race known for its blistering heat and wore out track surface, drivers will find themselves pushed to the limits of endurance – both mentally and physically. Be sure to tune into NBCSN, for the first time this season, at 3:30 PM ET to see live coverage of the race. For all things JDM, follow along on our social media pages @JDMotorsports01. #TeamJDM

SEM REJOINS JD MOTORSPORTS ONCE AGAIN AS PRIMARY SPONSOR ON STEPHEN LEICHT’S NO. 4 CHEVROLET

SEM REJOINS JD MOTORSPORTS ONCE AGAIN AS PRIMARY SPONSOR ON STEPHEN LEICHT’S NO. 4 CHEVROLET

Gaffney, SC –

JD Motorsports with Gary Keller (JDM) is proud to welcome SEM Products back on board the team’s flagship No. 4 Chevrolet Camaro driven by Stephen Leicht this Sunday at Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa.

SEM, a specialty coatings manufacturer based in Rock Hill, SC, has been sponsoring JDM in the NASCAR Xfinity Series since 2011, and this weekend will mark their first race of the season where they grace the hood and quarter panels of Leicht’s Chevrolet Camaro.

Leicht, who has raced in every NXS race this season driving the No. 01 entry, will get his first shot at driving in the No. 4 that currently sits 15th in the owners’ championship points standings. Entering the weekend, he sits 23rd in drivers’ points, coming off of a solid Top 20 run in Michigan last time out.

“I am very pleased to welcome some old friends from SEM back on with our team this weekend in Iowa. They have been really good to everybody at JD Motorsports in the past, and have built a very solid relationship with our crew. Stephen has had some good runs this season, and with his short track racing background, I am confident that we will have a good race when it is all said and done.” - JDM Team Owner Johnny Davis.

Iowa Speedway has historically been a great track to JDM, and even more specifically, the No. 4 team. Since 2014, the team has earned two Top 5 and five Top 10 finishes at the 7/8th mile speedway. In addition to JDM’s impressive stats, Stephen Leicht also has one Top 10 finish to his name in Iowa, which came at the track’s inaugural event in 2009. This weekend, he looks to build on these stats and hopefully earn his first Top 10 finish of the year.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series heads to Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa on Sunday, June 16th for the running of the Iowa NXS 250. Be sure to tune in on FOX Sports 1 at 5:30 PM ET to watch the four JD Motorsports with Gary Keller drivers battle it out at the 7/8th mile multi-grooved short track with high banking and high speed. JD MOTORSPORTS CARS EARN THREE TOP 20 FINISHES IN THE IRISH HILLS OF MICHIGAN

JD MOTORSPORTS CARS EARN THREE TOP 20 FINISHES IN THE IRISH HILLS OF MICHIGAN

GAFFNEY, SC –

On Saturday, the NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) made the trip up north to Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan for the running of the LTI Printing 250. Heading into the weekend, JD Motorsports with Gary Keller (JDM) race teams looked to continue a strong run they have been putting together over the past few weeks that included highs of one Top 10, five Top 15, and nine Top 20 finishes.

This past weekend was a big one for JDM, due to new partner Contec, Inc. making their debut as a primary sponsor in NASCAR on board Ross Chastain’s No. 4 Chevrolet. The automotive-based brand was excited to make their mark on the track right outside Detroit, and the team was able to deliver some good results in the process.

Ross Chastain, driver of the No. 4 Contec, Inc. Chevrolet, started off his busy weekend down in Texas racing in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series. This meant that longtime JDM driver Landon Cassill would pilot the No. 4 throughout both practice sessions on Friday in preparation for Chastain’s return Saturday morning for qualifying. Ross qualified his Chevy in 15th position, and raced around the 12th-15th spots for the first couple stages in the race.

In the final stage, the No. 4 Contec, Inc. crew decided to have a little fun with strategy, and opted to stay out on old tires late in the running. This allowed Chastain to position himself up within the Top 5 cars for a good amount of laps until the tires wore out, where he eventually faded through the field back near where he had been running. Though the gamble didn’t necessarily pay off because there was no caution, Ross was still able to bring his Camaro home with a 14th position. Because he has declared points in the truck series over the weekend, Ross no longer is eligible to compete for the NXS points championship, and thus removes himself from the playoff picture.

BJ McLeod, driver of the No. 15 #TeamJDM Chevrolet, started his day off from the 23rd position on the grid, and ran his race in typical McLeod fashion: sly and under the radar. Though  McLeod rarely positions himself right in the thick of things up near the front of the pack for most of the race, he always finds a way to make up spots late in the going right when the checkered flag is in sight. He spent most of the afternoon racing in the 18th-25th positions, but at the end of the day, he brought his No. 15 Camaro home in 19th place, his third Top 20 finish in a row. He now sits a solid P20 in the season’s standings.

Nipping right at McLeod’s heels at the end of the 125 lapper at Michigan was Stephen Leicht, driver of the No. 01 TeamJDMotorsports.com Chevrolet.  Leicht started the day off in 32nd, but quickly made his way through the field up to around the 20th-22nd positions for most of the afternoon. Like McLeod, however, he was able to position himself up inside the Top 20 in the closing laps, coming home with a 20th place run. He moves up to 22nd in the points standings, now just twenty markers out of the Top 20.

Garrett Smithley, driver of the No. 0 Trophy Tractor Chevrolet, just never seemed to catch a good break throughout the weekend. After qualifying a disappointing 38th, Smithley passed a few cars and ran within the 25th-30th spots for most of the afternoon, but a mysterious vibration hindered his performance greatly at the two-mile oval. The Number Nuthin crew tried their best to eradicate the issue, but it never went away completely, forcing Garrett to come home with a 27th place finish. He now sits 16th in the points standings, 152 points behind the Playoffs cutoff.

JD MOTORSPORTS SIGNS RYAN REPKO TO A LIMITED NASCAR XFINITY SERIES SCHEDULE

Gaffney, SC –

JD Motorsports with Gary Keller (JDM) is proud to announce that Denver, NC native Ryan Repko will make his NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) debut in the series’ upcoming race at Iowa Speedway - the first start of a multi-race deal for 2019.

Repko, born October 1st, 1999, has two ARCA Menards Series starts to his name, with the most recent being held at Nashville Fairgrounds Speedway in April, 2018. A natural short track racer, Repko has two Top 5 finishes and one career pole award in the CARS Tour Late Model Stock division in just eleven previous starts. In 2018, Repko won three Late Model Stock Car races, plus the prestigious Bobby Isaac Memorial 150 at Hickory Motor Speedway, a race known throughout the Southeast as being one of the most notable crown jewel events.

The nineteen-year-old driver was quoted saying “I am really thankful for this opportunity. All of the pieces are coming together for this to be a great weekend for JD Motorsports with Gary Keller, as well as for myself. I’m looking forward to making a name for myself in my first NASCAR National Series event.”

More NXS races in Repko’s growing racing schedule will be announced at a later date as the season progresses.

Ryan Repko has enlisted the services of PMG, an industry leader in career path management, to help facilitate this new relationship with JD Motorsports with Gary Keller. PMG’s partnership with JDM has helped numerous young short track racers make their NASCAR National Series debut, with Ryan being the latest successful prodigy in their lineup.

JD MOTORSPORTS’ CHASTAIN & MCLEOD EARN TOP 20 FINISHES IN POCONO; TOUGH BREAK FOR LEICHT & SMITHLEY

JD MOTORSPORTS’ CHASTAIN & MCLEOD EARN TOP 20 FINISHES IN POCONO; TOUGH BREAK FOR LEICHT & SMITHLEY

GAFFNEY, SC –

The NASCAR Xfinity Series raced this past Saturday afternoon at Pocono Raceway nestled deep in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania for the Pocono Green 250 recycled by JP Mascaro & Sons. JD Motorsports with Gary Keller (JDM) drivers Ross Chastain, Garrett Smithley, BJ McLeod, and Stephen Leicht entered the weekend looking to build on momentum gained from four great runs last time out in Charlotte.

Ross Chastain, driver of the No. 4 Georgia Watermelon Association Chevrolet, started the race from the 14th position after a solid qualifying effort under NASCAR’s new qualifying procedures. From there, he began to inch his way closer to the Top 10 during Stage 1, and with the help of some pit strategy, Chastain was able to finish seventh in the stage, securing four bonus points. When Stage 2 rolled around, Ross felt like he had lost some of the balance in the rear end, causing him to slip back a few spots.

Though the No. 4 team did not earn any bonus points in Stage 2, they made some valuable adjustments which helped position Ross within striking distance of the Top 10 late in the race. On the final Green-White-Checkered restart, Ross lined up 11th, but ultimately came home with a 14th place finish after a chaotic scramble coming to the checkered flag. Coming out of Pocono, Ross still sits 13th in points, now just 23 markers back of the Playoffs cutoff.

BJ McLeod, driver of the No. 15 JD Motorsports Chevrolet, started the race with the least amount of laps on track with just two. He rolled off the grid from the 16th position, right behind Chastain. McLeod ran a quiet, methodical race within the 18th-25th spots all day, laying low and staying out of any trouble. By the time the finish came around, however, he had positioned himself to go to work. He came home with a 17th place finish, which is his best finish of the season. This was McLeod’s third Top 20 finish of 2019, and he now sits 22nd in the standings, just four points shy of the Top 20.

Stephen Leicht, driver of the No. 01 JD Motorsports Chevrolet, started the 100 lapper from the 25th position. For the majority of his race, Leicht seemed to race right around BJ McLeod in the 18th-25th positions. The No. 01 Chevrolet fought a tight condition throughout the race, but a late caution aided the crew to allow Stephen to race well into the Top 20. On the last restart, however, he unfortunately got moved out of the way, allowing multiple cars to pass coming to the checkered flag. As they crossed the start/finish line, Leicht was scored in the 23rd position, which is also where he remains in the NXS points standings.

Garrett Smithley, driver of the No. 0 Trophy Tractor Chevrolet, had a tough going this past weekend in the Poconos. It appeared as if the car’s setup was never truly right to his liking, and there was an overall lack of speed. Smithley began the race from the 34th starting position, but quickly made his way up inside the Top 25 early on. Garrett continued to run up inside the Top 25 for a good portion of the day, but unfortunately, near the ¾ mark of the race, a vibration forced him to bring his car to the garage for repairs. The Number Nuthin’ crew worked feverishly to get Smithley back out on the racetrack, where he finished 29th, 17 laps down. Smithley drops one spot in the points standings to 17th position heading into the next race at Michigan.

The NASCAR Xfinity Series heads to Michigan International Speedway for the running of the LTI Printing 250 on Saturday, June 8th. GEORGIA WATERMELON ASSOCIATION, TROPHY TRACTOR REJOIN JD MOTORSPORTS AS PRIMARY SPONSORS FOR POCONO

GEORGIA WATERMELON ASSOCIATION, TROPHY TRACTOR REJOIN JD MOTORSPORTS AS PRIMARY SPONSORS FOR POCONO

Gaffney, SC-

JD Motorsports with Gary Keller (JDM) is proud to announce that Georgia Watermelon Association and Trophy Tractor will once again join the team’s efforts this weekend at Pocono Raceway as primary sponsors on two Chevrolet Camaros.

Georgia Watermelon Association will be represented on Ross Chastain’s No. 4 Chevrolet Camaro, a partnership that has been years in the making. With summer being just around the corner, watermelon season is in full force, which is why the Association would like to spread the message to grab some fresh, juicy Georgia-grown watermelons in your local grocery store. This weekend’s Pocono Green 250 will be the first race of the season that GWA will be on board the No. 4.

Chastain, who comes fresh off an 11th place finish at Charlotte Motor Speedway last Saturday, currently has an average finish of 17.1 so far in the 2019 NASCAR Xfinity Series season, and sits 13th in the points standings, just a mere 49 points outside of the Playoffs cutoff.

Trophy Tractor, a longtime supporter of Garrett Smithley, will jump on board the No. 0 #NumberNuthin Chevrolet for the second time this season. Earlier this year at Texas Motor Speedway, the tractor and equipment rental service company partnered with Smithley, who delivered a 31st place finish due to an early exit in which his engine expired. Garrett and the No. 0 race team are looking to keep the momentum rolling strong after a solid 17th place finish last weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Smithley has an average finish of 20.7 in the first eleven races of the season, and currently sits 16th in the NASCAR Xfinity Series standings.

JD MOTORSPORTS CARS EARN TWO TOP 15, FOUR TOP 20 FINISHES IN CHARLOTTE

JD MOTORSPORTS CARS EARN TWO TOP 15, FOUR TOP 20 FINISHES IN CHARLOTTE

GAFFNEY, SC –

On Saturday, the NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) raced at Charlotte Motor Speedway for a 300-mile race in the sweltering heat. With two off weekends in a row leading up to the Charlotte race, the JD Motorsports with Gary Keller (JDM) race teams had plenty of time to prepare cars capable of running well.

And run well they did. Though the weekend didn’t start off the greatest for any of the JDM cars in qualifying, they made their way through the field during the race, ending up with some good finishes.

Ross Chastain, who drives the No. 4 Florida Watermelon Association Chevrolet Camaro, started 37th due to a broken wire in the ignition during qualifying. He didn’t stay there long, however, as he worked all the way up to the Top 15 during Stage 1 of the race. The No. 4 was a rocket ship early on, but midway through the race, it was apparent that there was a problem with the car, which turned out to be the splitter pan that was dragging underneath, which hindered performance.

Once the team fixed the issue, Chastain made his way back through the field at a quick rate. He was nipping on the heels of another Top 10 finish, but ultimately ran out of time, and brought his Camaro home in the 11th position. That finish keeps Ross solidly in 13th for the season standings, now 49 points behind the Playoffs cutoff spot.

Stephen Leicht, driver of the No. 01 Flex Glue Chevrolet Camaro, had a roller coaster of a day. The near by Asheville, NC native struggled in qualifying, and rolled off from the 32nd position to start the race off. From there, he was able to knock down spots one at a time, and ran on the lead lap for the majority of the event. Leicht consistently improved throughout the race, and thanks to the help of four fresh tires near the finish, he was able to cap the weekend off with a solid 15th place run – his best finish yet this season. Stephen jumps up a whopping three spots in the season standings to 23rd, and now sits 26 markers back from the Top 20.

The #NumberNuthin Flex Tape No. 0 Chevrolet Camaro driven by Garrett Smithley had a relatively uneventful afternoon in Charlotte. After qualifying the car in 30th place, he too made his way through the field, spending most of the day in the 15th – 20th positions. At one point, thanks to some strategy by the crew, Garrett found himself restarting up inside the Top 10. He ran consistently for the remainder of the race, and ended up coming away with a 17th place finish. Smithley still sits in 16th in points, now just 38 points back of being inside the Top 15.

BJ McLeod, who had backing from Flex Seal on his No. 15 Chevrolet Camaro, continued to build on momentum for the team with another solid run. McLeod qualified the car in 21st, which was the best out of the four JDM cars. From there, he ran right around Garrett in the 15th – 20th positions, ultimately coming home with an 18th place finish. BJ sits 22nd in the standings, just 11 points back out of 20th.

FLEX SEAL, FLORIDA WATERMELON ASSOCIATION JOIN JD MOTORSPORTS’ FOUR CAR EFFORTS FOR CHARLOTTE

FLEX SEAL, FLORIDA WATERMELON ASSOCIATION JOIN JD MOTORSPORTS’ FOUR CAR EFFORTS FOR CHARLOTTE

GAFFNEY, SC –

JD Motorsports with Gary Keller (JDM) is proud to welcome back the Flex Seal Family of Products as well as the Florida Watermelon Association on board as primary partners on all four Chevrolet Camaros.

Florida Watermelon Association will once again team up with Ross Chastain and the No. 4 team, a partnership that dates back to 2014 in his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut at Charlotte. This will be the first race of the season for the FWA aboard Chastain’s Chevrolet.

Flex Seal will join forces with BJ McLeod and the No. 15 team, marking it as the first time that he has been sponsored by the longtime JDM supporter. In two sponsored races this season, Flex Seal was able to earn an 11th place finish at Richmond with Chastain, and a 9th place finish at Talladega with Landon Cassill, both driving the No. 4 Chevrolet.

Flex Tape will hop on board the No. 0 Camaro with Garrett Smithley for the third time this season. In Talladega just a few weeks ago, the Flex Tape backing helped push Smithley to his season-best finish in 12th place.

And lastly, but certainly not least, Flex Glue will reunite with Stephen Leicht and the No. 01 Chevrolet for the second time this season. In their only other race aboard Leicht’s Camaro, they walked away with a 24th place finish after getting caught up in “The Big One”.

This weekend’s race in Charlotte marks the third time this season where all four JDM cars have been fully sponsored, and the team is very pleased. Team owner Johnny Davis was quoted saying “We here at JD Motorsports truly appreciate all of the fantastic support we have had this season. Our cars have been running as good as ever, and I take pride in knowing that more and more companies are starting to take notice. We are going to give it our all this Saturday in Charlotte to represent them well!”

The NASCAR Xfinity Series heads to Charlotte Motor Speedway for the running of the Alsco 300 on Saturday, May 25th. With this being a race close to home for many NXS teams and drivers, there is always an extra sense of pride and desire to perform. CHASTAIN LEADS TEAM OF FOUR JD MOTORSPORTS CARS TO A 12TH PLACE FINISH IN DOVER

CHASTAIN LEADS TEAM OF FOUR JD MOTORSPORTS CARS TO A 12TH PLACE FINISH IN DOVER

DOVER, DE –

Dover is a racetrack that JD Motorsports with Gary Keller (JDM) looks forward to coming to every year. In seasons past, the team has had some good success, and with the support of the Delaware Office of Highway Safety, there’s always a boost in morale and team spirit associated with the trip up north.

Entering the weekend, driver Ross Chastain was eager to hop back in the seat of his No. 4 Protect Your Melon Chevrolet after briefly stepping out of the ride one week prior in Talladega. Chastain, who looked to get back in the swing of things with the team, showed the world that he was going to give it his all by qualifying in the Top 10 early Saturday morning. Indeed, it was his best ever qualifying result with JDM, which added a sense of pride within the organization. Throughout the Allied Steel Buildings 200, Ross kept his Protect Your Melon Chevy up in and around the Top 10, even going as far as earning a couple stage points at the end of Stage 1.

In a race that only saw five total cautions, there weren’t many opportunities to work on the racecar, but a late caution brought everybody down pit road for some final adjustments. This set the field up for a fourteen-lap sprint to the finish, and crew chief Paul Clapprood went with a Hail Mary call to drastically change the setup on Chastain’s car, hoping to gain some track position. The effort paid off, ending with Ross coming home with a 12th place finish. He leaves Dover still sitting in 13th place in the season points standings, now 44 markers out of the Playoffs cutoff.

Garrett Smithley, driver of the No. 0 Camaro from nearby Ligonier, Pennsylvania, likes coming to Dover due in part to a good number of local fans and friends coming out to support his racing efforts. This weekend, Garrett got to visit the Dover Air Force Base, in which he was able to connect with local military members and their families, a humbling experience for himself. On Saturday morning, Garrett qualified his Chevrolet in the 26th position. From there, he found himself racing in close quarters with two of his JDM teammates in Stephen Leicht and BJ McLeod for the bulk of Stage 1.

Stage 2 came around with Smithley starting to find his stride a little bit, running up near the Top 20 for most of the rest of the race. The crew made some slight changes to help find more balance, and at one point, Smithley radioed “We are about one adjustment away from being perfect!” At the end of the day, Garrett brought his Number Nuthin Chevy home with a 23rd place finish. Smithley sits 16th in the standings, 41 points out of the Top 15 positions.

Stephen Leicht started the weekend off with a 23rd place qualifying effort, and felt pretty confident of what he had for the 200-lap main event. He wrestled a “tight” condition with his No. 01 Chevrolet for the entire race, and with Dover being one of those tracks that eats tires, he was at a disadvantage with a car that was resistant to turning. Though he ran consistently near the 20th to 25th position, it seemed as if none of the adjustments made to his car helped fix the handling issues. Leicht ended up in the 26th position, and dropped down one spot in points. Don’t fret though, for he is only twelve points behind 22nd place, and will have a shot at gaining some points on his competition in the next outing at his home track in Charlotte.

Dover just so happens to be one of BJ McLeod’s favorite racetracks, and he proved it in qualifying. He was able to bust out a lap good enough for 20th place to start the day off, which was his best qualifying effort this season, and his second-best starting spot of his entire career. From there, he raced around Stephen and Garrett for the first stage, ending up right behind them at the end of it. McLeod continued to race around the 25th spot for the remainder of the race, before ultimately coming home with a 27th place finish. BJ sits in 21st in points, and actually moves up one spot compared to the week prior in Talladega.

All in all, it was a solid race for the team. The crews seemed pretty content with their showing, and they were able to gather some valuable notes for when the series returns to the track later on in the season. Thank you to the Delaware Office of Highway Safety for their continued support, and we here at JD Motorsports with Gary Keller would like to sincerely remind everybody to buckle their seatbelts up when they get in a vehicle!
