Kansas October 2013 Race Review – Mike Wallace

KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The finish number wasn’t fantastic, but the recovery was.

Mike Wallace finished 31st in Saturday’s Kansas Lottery 300 Nationwide Series race at Kansas Speedway.

Wallace stayed on the track during an early caution period to lead a lap but then had to pit when a rocker arm in the engine in his JD Motorsports with Gary Keller Chevrolet broke. Wallace shut down the engine immediately, and team owner Johnny Davis was able to replace the lifter quickly.

“That was amazing in itself,” Wallace said, “and we were able to get back out and pick up four spots. Johnny did a great job.”

Wallace stayed in 17th in Nationwide driver points.

Matt Kenseth scored his second victory of the season. Austin Dillon moved past Sam Hornish Jr. into the point lead.

The series moves on to Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Dollar General 300 Oct. 11. There are four races left on the schedule.
